Edmonton EXPO Centre

Attracting exceptional events for unforgettable experiences.

In 2018, the Edmonton EXPO Centre welcomed over 1.5 million guests to Experience More.

The Edmonton EXPO Centre became a division of EEDC on January 1, 2018. This transition was handled prudently to preserve and leverage all the key benefits of the Edmonton EXPO Centre, including human resources, customers, community connections and overall community impact. As the venue completes its first full year of operations under the EEDC banner, the team is proud of achieving a significant and truly successful shift.

Endless event possibilities

Built in 1984 and expanded in 2009, the Edmonton EXPO Centre is a powerful economic catalyst, providing authentic experiences and limitless opportunities in the most imaginative event space in Canada. At 522,000 square feet, designed for large trade and consumer shows, conferences and special events, the facility integrates high-tech features with flexible, adaptable indoor and outdoor space.

Delivering excellence together

With a vision to be one of North America’s top-performing venues, the Edmonton EXPO Centre operates with a commitment to operational excellence and with a focus on integration and value creation. By working collaboratively with its sister divisions, the Edmonton Convention Centre and Edmonton Tourism, the venue attracts and hosts amazing large-scale event experiences that generate significant economic activity and impact for our city.

It takes a special kind of team to activate and operate in a space of this size. Over 600 part-time and 76 full-time staff continue to lead the way at the Edmonton EXPO Centre. The venue boasts a tight-knit and seasoned team with an unshakeable commitment to service excellence – more than 40 per cent of the staff have received awards for over 10 years of service.

PBR Monster Energy Tour Edmonton Classic

New and impactful

Several new events were hosted at the Edmonton EXPO Centre in 2018. In May, the venue hosted Volleyball Canada Nationals, which was brought to Edmonton through close collaboration with EEDC’s Edmonton Tourism division. Over 10,000 athletes and 12,000 spectators converged on the venue from all over the country. Generating over $30 million in direct economic impact, the competition saw a whopping 864 teams play 3,184 games on 55 sprawling volleyball courts throughout the entire venue.

In October, the PBR Monster Energy Tour Edmonton Classic took to Hall D along with 60 tons of dirt. The event featured Canada’s elite athletes, alongside some of the league’s top international athletes, squaring off against the rankest bucking bulls from across the nation. Fans witnessed exhilarating eight-second rides and wrecks throughout the action-packed event.

By December, dirt gave way to ice as the venue team hosted over 20,000 excited fans over 11 performances for Disney On Ice presents Dare to Dream, which was the first time in 14 years an ice event had been held in in Hall D.

Community matters

While the Edmonton EXPO Centre has deep roots in the community as a space to come together for amazing experiences, it also supports numerous charitable organizations and communities in Edmonton through in-kind support. To ensure support has the greatest impact possible, community investment efforts are focused on initiatives related to the area’s neighbours and youth initiatives.

Providing venue space and resources makes a big difference for partners like Junior Chamber International. In December, the JCI Holiday Hamper program team based their operations from the venue, where 2,580 drivers picked up Christmas hampers for delivery in the community.
